Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader: Use questions from the game.
Trivial Pursuit and Trivial Pursuit Jr.
Questions from middle school academic team.
Books in teacher supply stores with educational questions.
The publication, Classroom Connect, Connected Newsletter has a calendar page each
month with a research question. For example in the March 2007, it says for the
15th, Kites, How were kites used during World War I. Then it gives a website:

The following websites are good sites for obtaining riddles or core content
questions for a weekly trivia contest.

· Brain Food http://rinkworks.com/brainfood/riddles.shtml
· National Institute of Environment Health Sciences

· Az Kids Net http://www.azkidsnet.com/riddles.htm
· Kids Domain http://www.kidsdomain.com/holiday/

Some places I get ideas are:
I have an "author and illustrator" calendar, and a lot of times the questions are
about an author whose birthday is that week.
I also do questions about things we are studying in library classes that week (I'm
on a fixed schedule).
Sometimes I look on this website for ideas:
http://www.kidsreads.com/funstuff/trivia/index.asp
And sometimes they're just general library skills questions like: Where would you
find Dr. Seuss' books in our library? How are fiction books in order?, etc.
Daily there are questions to answer at the National Geographic Society's web site:

(this is just one of many topics)

are you smarter than a 5th grader?

Poll your teachers and take a question from each discipline.
You could also do famous book/movie quotes.
