That is exactly what I thought. Even in the article Hubert stated
that he had a difficult time locating the book because it was
out-of-print. If anything is decided in this matter, it should be
that Hubert be hired as an educational consultant for the Jeff Brown
estate. His ideas (especially with the "flat family") would not only
increase sales of "Flat Stanley" books but also create new spin-offs
of the the "flat village" that would include Stanley and all the new
people who would travel the world through the interactions of children
around the world.

If the attorneys would stop for a moment and consider the bigger
picture (or if the Jeff Brown estate would consider the potential
rather than the immediate rewards to gain from a lawsuit), they would
see that there is a definite marketing opportunity within this
situation that is much larger and more beneficial for everyone.)

Think of it (should the Jeff Brown estate see this and want ideas for
a positive-spin resulting from Mr. Hubert's original idea---otherwise
known as the "win-win" concept):

* websites for marketing the "Flat Stanely" book in various formats
(consider audio, large print, and even braille for the visually
impaired)
* wikis for interactive collaboration between groups of students
around the world (think "Flat Classroom" and "Flat Stanley")
* photo-sharing sites promoting the various places that students have
shared "Flat Stanley"
* podcast sites for students to share ideas, visits from Stanley, and
interactions with one another
* bookstore and library visits from "Flat Stanley" and his friends
* staff development opportunities to extend the "Flat Stanley" project
using 2.0 technologies
* reading and writing activity books for students using "Flat Stanley"
as the model (workbooks, journals, etc.)
* posters, buttons, plush "flat" dolls, etc.
* videos for teaching students and teachers ways to incorporate "Flat
Stanley" projects across the curriculum--- Flat Stanley Math, Flat
Stanley Science, Flat Stanley History, Flat Stanley Geography

and I could continue.

It's frustrating to see a good idea squelched when some individuals
won't stop and consider that there are alternatives to the situation
that could lead to a completely new and wonderfully fresh way to share
creativity. Instead of working against Hubert, the Jeff Brown estate
should employ and utilize this man's creativity to continue developing
these types of ideas. But then, I guess, not everyone has read the
fable of the "Goose that Laid the Golden Egg."

I'm afraid that if this continues, then this goose is cooked...so, in
the end, we may all lose.

Just my opinion.
