I heartily agree!  I spent 10 years overseas (in Turkey and Egypt) and am
now on a one-person mission to raise the educational consciousness of how
the ME is portrayed in everything from Western television to YA novels.

I realize not everyone can live overseas (grin--though it's easier to do
than you think!), but the great thing about Web 2.0 is we CAN start
leading our students to non-US focused sources of information, to raise
their awareness that there are valid, alternatives ways of viewing the
world than through the American (or European) lens.
