I read this to mean "in each school." You can't really provide library-media services in "each" school without a degreed library media specialist. Yes, I know there are many, many situation where one LMS oversees schools that have a paraprofessional actually in the school, however I will never say that situation provides "library media services." Yes, I know we all do the best we can in any given situation, but the LMS is the person who actually can provide those services. It's rather like saying we'll have a reading teacher to oversee all of the instruction in the school, but we'll only have one reading teacher for every 5 rooms and an assistant in every room. Bah! I also am one of those who believe that some areas of our profession have suffered from a lack of public relations to remind people of the vitality that an LMS adds to the education experience. The Education Machine is just too big to remember how cool we are unless we keep ourselves front and center. I make my contributions important, and I make sure people know what I'm doing. Sometimes I seem like a busy body, but it always seems that I am doing things people just love!! Congrats to NJ! Clearly the "stuff" has to be in each building. I'm not sure sure a specialist has to be. I hope I'm wrong . . . Maureen S.
