Hello School Library Aficionados! There is less than a week left to get your proposals in to present at the AERA REISL SIG sessions in San Diego next year = due this Friday, Aug. 1, at midnight. Remember, a proposal is only a 2,000 word paper with a 150-word abstract. You can do that easily! Even if you are unsure of a submission, please send it in and let us take a look . . . the more submissions a SIG gets, the more sessions they are allowed. We need you to let us know that you're interested, both practioners and professors alike (grad students also). Submit your paper (or sign up to become a reviewer) at http://www.aera.net/meetings before the week is over so that we can see you in San Diego. Thanks again, :) Michelle Kowalsky William Paterson University AERA REISL SIG Comm. Officer - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Call for Participation: 2009 AERA conference Annual Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting of the Research, Education, Information, and School Libraries (REISL) SIG April 13 - 17, San Diego, California SIG Chair: Patricia Montiel Overall, University of Arizona SIG Program Chair: Kafi Kumasi-Johnson, Indiana University at Bloomington Are you currently working on a collaborative research project or other professional collaboration with someone who has a different disciplinary background than you? Of course you are! That is what the work of school library media professionals is essentially about—collaborating with educators from other disciplines to help improve student learning? Given AERA's 2009 theme: "Disciplined Inquiry: Education Research in the Circle of Knowledge", this is a wonderful time for school library researchers, practitioners and doctoral students to join with colleagues from other disciplines to share the work they are doing at the 2008 Annual Meeting REISL SIG of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Moreover, the presence of school librarians is much needed in the larger education community. One way to accomplish this is by becoming a member of AERA. If you have a vested interest in school libraries, and are not currently a member of AERA, please help increase the voice of school library scholars by joining AERA. Regular membership dues are $120/year and Graduate Student Membership is $35/year. Also REISL SIG membership dues are $5 for one-year and $15 for three years. For more information about REISL, please visit the official website at http://www.aera.net/default. aspx?menu_id=326&id=2070 Call for Juried Papers This call for papers seeks original contributions of proposals on any topic relevant to school libraries with special emphasis on papers related to the SIG theme. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Please follow the format required by the AERA for submitting proposals (see below). Call for Posters (Practitioners and Doctoral Students Wanted!) Do you have interesting work in progress you would like to share? Poster sessions are for you! Poster sessions introduce new or ongoing work, and the REISL audience provides valuable discussion and feedback. We are particularly interested in presentations of practitioner and doctoral student work. Separate sessions will be held for practitioners and doctoral students provided that enough proposals are submitted through the format required by the AERA (see below) Submission Information: DEADLINE, August 1, 2008 To submit your paper or poster proposal, please access AERA's website at: http://www.aera.net/meetings. Text length may not exceed more than 2000 words for individuals or 2,600 words for multiple presentation proposals. All proposals must be submitted electronically at the website and may not be submitted via email. Submission questions may be directed to questions@aera.net For additional information: Please consult the AERA website or contact Kafi Kumasi-Johnson, REISL SIG Program Chair, 2007-08, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, kkumasij@indiana.edu or Patricia Montiel Overall, SIG Chair, University of Arizona overall@u.arizona.edu Call for Reviewers: The REISL SIG of AERA is seeking experienced researchers to review proposals for the annual meeting.
