I have just completed my first year as district librarian in a small rural district in South Texas. I am in charge of 1 high school, 1 middle school, and 2 elementary libraries; I have paraprofessionals at 3 of the campuses. I do not foresee my district hiring another certified librarian in the near or distant future, it has always been done this way. I know there are other librarians in similar situations; please email me off list and I will post a hit. How do you schedule your time at the libraries so that you see more classes? I rotate one day a week and one Friday a month at each campus but I don't feel like I have any continuity much less time for library lessons. Do you plan "mini-workshops" on a monthly basis? I am getting a good grasp on administrative duties, I would like to spend more time in the library. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
