LM_NET Archive

I've checked the archives and didn't find anything that specifically addressed
this. I am thinking about what to do to help my struggling readers--particularly
those 3-5 graders who really want to read those "higher level" books, but need some
extra help. My collection has a small number of books on CD and we also have some
listening centers and I was thinking that I could offer to set one up in the
library for small groups to come and use. In previous years, the Books-on-CD were
allowed to circulate, but the librarian just before me stopped circulating them
(fear of loss/damage I believe). What I'm wondering is whether it would be more
beneficial to these particular students to have the Playaways with an attached
paperback book or to add to the collection of Books-on-CD and allow those to
circulate. To those of you who are using Playaways or Books-on-CD in your
elementary school:

1. Which (if either) format seems to work best for those struggling readers?
2. Do you allow the Playaways/CDs to circulate?
3. What are some of the pros and cons you've personally observed?

I will post a hit if there are any responses.
