I'm in the middle of teaching summer school and resurrected this lesson from my elementary days. I have a very realistic looking stuffed cat, which I put inside a bird cage. Review genres. Hold up the cage with the cat inside and ask "Why is the cat in the cage? SCIENCE FICTION, 2 sentences." Hopefully, the answer will be something like, "Alien birds from Mars came to earth and rescued the bird from inside the cage with bird rescuing machines. Then they put the cat inside." Repeat with each genre and you will get some fun stories. If you have more time, they can write down their stories and make them longer. The kids had a lot of fun with it. I am sure there are some more 'visual story starters' that the great minds on this list can come up with. If anyone else has some good ideas they have used, I would be happy to post a hit. -- Cheryl Youse, MLS Media Specialist Colquitt County High School cyouse@gmail.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
