HI folks,

The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School recently
announced that it will head a newly formed Internet Safety Technical Task
Force. The Task Force, comprised of leading Internet businesses and
organizations, will focus on identifying effective online safety tools and
technologies that can be used by many companies across multiple platforms.
This Task Force has been established by MySpace in cooperation with the
Attorneys General.

You all know my perspective on safety tools and technologies. Some
usefulness - but will not resolve the underlying concerns.

I just blogged about this:
http://csriu.wordpress.com/2008/03/01/social-networking-risks-the-myths-and-
realities/

This blog also addresses the new research report on sexual predators by the
Crimes Against Children Research Center.
http://www.unh.edu/news/cj_nr/2008/feb/lw18internet.cfm What the CACRC
reported is not news to me - I have been relying on their quality research
for years. But this report is really excellent - a must read for any of you
with responsibility for addressing Internet safety in your schools. You will
discover that some of the messages in the Internet safety material you have
been using is just plain wrong.
