I'm looking for some creative minds.....I am in charge of putting together an
assembly for my K-4 school. The main purpose is for our "Principal's Reading
Challenge". The kids are about to reach their goal of 15,000 books read in a month
and get a chance to "Pie the Principal" (with a green cool whip pie...actually 46
pies, 2 kids/class). The challenge was tied into Dr. Seuss's birthday and "Green
Eggs and Ham". During our assembly, of course, will be the pie throwing and I'm
looking for some ideas to fill up the rest of the hour long assembly.
*********************************************
...the ideas I got were to do some reading cheers, a reader's theater and trivia
with prizes. My assembly was Friday and we ended up doing a staff skit of "Green
Eggs and Ham". We basically just acted out the story with each "question"
read/acted by a different staff member (for ex. one dressed as a mouse and said,
"Would you, could you with a mouse?" etc). Our music teacher was Sam and I was the
"other guy" who would not eat green eggs and ham. We've done this sort of thing
before and our students get such a kick out of their teachers acting silly. The
best part of the play was the 4 fourth grade teachers as the eggs and ham. The art
teacher made sandwich board type "costumes", 2 eggs, 2 hams. They scooted across
the stage with their arms connected boo-hoo-ing when I said I didn't like them.

I also had a 10 minute power point slide show of a basic bio on Seuss and then the
students got to throw green cool whip pies at the principal for reaching the
reading goal of 15,000 books in a month. Also, since they went over by about 8,000
books, 8 teachers took a pie, too. Overall, it was a great hit! Every year I find
myself trying to out do the last year. Last year, we did a dunk tank to "Dunk the
Principal". It's definitely a tradition at our school every year!

Have you posted a hit on this yet? I hope I didn't miss it.

Any ideas? Of course I thought the principal or I could read the book or I
also have an animated version to show. But I feel like I need something else. I'd
appreciate any ideas....by the way, the assembly is on Friday! I work best under
pressure (I think!)

        Thanks,
        Susan
