I didn't find exactly what the teacher described ( a site with a survey that matches students & books ), but here are several sites that come close. All these have recommendations for teens. A couple have the students answer a question or two about likes & dislikes. http://www.whatshouldireadnext.com/search (this one has recommendations for children and adults as well, but the lists are a bit uneven & limiting. Breathing Underwater brought up Traveling Pants and the CS Lewis books as recommendations. The recommendations are created from lists created by registered users (free & promises no spam). You list the books you like and when a search matches a book on your list, the rest of your books show up under recommended books. Rather unscientific, but interesting.) http://www.answerpoint.org/forums/default.asp?CAT_ID=5 This is a link to the 3 forums - adults, teens & kids. Every post is "If you liked......" It is a closed forum, so no new members may join at this time. http://askchris.essexcc.gov.uk/adult/Welcome.asp This one comes closest to the target question. Click "What should I read next?" and choose a type of book - crime, great group reads - and a list of recommended titles appears. Click on the title to read more about the book. There is an advanced search that allows for more choices of types of books. Interesting look to the website. http://www.teenreads.com/ My favorite over all. Book reviews by and for teens. ALA lists, author information, book group help, and much more. http://www.readergirlz.com/ Forums & recommendations for girls - NOTE: There is music that starts immediately when you go to the site. http://www.guysread.com/ Jon Scieszka's site about books for guys. http://books.google.com/ Read the book online. It is limited, but I was really surprised what books were available - To Kill a Mockingbird and Invisible Man, but also some modern novels by Janet Evanovich and tony Hillerman. Unfortunately, sometimes critical parts of the newer books are omitted. You get more than just a "tease", but less than the entire novel. There are fiction & non-fiction books & some study guides available.
