[LM_NET] looking for a book title

A teacher just came to me looking for the title of a book she used 10+ years
ago.  She remembers that it was set in Australia and that a group of kids
went camping in the outback.  When they returned they discovered that their
town had been "taken over".  Apparently the kids then organize and take the
town back.  I'm drawing a blank.  Any thoughts?
