Thanks to those who responded to my target for a site that tells you the carbon footprint of various activities. I didn't find what I was looking for - I think it does not exist yet - where you can enter a particular type of activity and you get the carbon footprint for that activity. On most of these sites, you answer questions about your overall lifestyle type (do you fly a lot, how do you dry your clothes, etc.) and then they calculate your footprint, and give you suggestions for lowering it. The origin of my Target was a 5th grader who asked if the campfire we are planning on having next month at our school would produce more or less pollution than driving a car for a day, a week, etc. so I wanted to compare the pollutant output of a campfire (granted, it would depend on the size) with that of a car for a day/week (and granted, it would depend on how much one drives in a day, but you get the idea!) :) Some people asked for a Hit so here it is: Perhaps epa.gov might help. http://www.nais.org/resources/article.cfm?ItemNumber=149543 www.ecovoyageurs.ca See http://www.carboncounter.org/ http://www.terrapass.com/ http://www.nature.org/initiatives/climatechange/calculator/?src=nav1 http://www.scribd.com/doc/191916/john-edwards-2008-earthday?ga_related_doc=1 Ilana Locker Librarian Colegio Internacional de Caracas Caracas, Venezuela lockeri@ciccaracas.com.ve http://www.ciccaracas.com.ve/elementarylibrary/ http://www.ciccaracas.com.ve/secondarylibrary/ -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
