Thanks everyone for sharing and so timely. I was able to use your
comments at our tech meeting today. I was requested to post a hit.

I teach in a career and technical center/high school, and we have had
United Streaming for four years now. I held a two-hour inservice the
first year and showed staff how to create accounts, etc. There have
been many upgrades to the service since then -- it gets better each
year. As the account manager for my buiding, I can see who uses it
and how often. Science dept. would have a fit if we got rid of this.
We have many ceiling mounted projectors, making the streaming option
the favorite. Teachers love the clips vs. the whole video. It is easy
to add visual element to many lessons.

I have used it in two different high schools. In the first students had
student accounts and could access it. I did an orientation and then
students could use clips and resources for reports, powerpoints etc. It
worked really well. Teachers also used it extensively. Of course I was
always promoting it. By the way, we had the premium or gold edition. In
the second school the have the basic (ho-hum) edition. It was already in
place when I came and was used only by teachers. I would say the use is
moderate. I think it is a valuable asset. Get the premium edition and
see about allowing students to access. Then do the inservice and promote.
  It will pay for itself.

I think the best case for purchasing US is the variety of useful
tools available. I have used US most successfully in creating
presentations in which I utilized images, sounds, and video clips to
enhance the presentation. US also gives quizzes for many of these
resources as well as citation formats. I think it is a very useful
tool, but you will need to educate your teachers on how to get the
full value from these tools. It's much more than simply a resource
for videos.

Our district has used United Streaming (now Discovery Education
Streaming) for several years. Once they see it, the teachers like it
and use it a lot. It really provides that extra help in the
classroom, for example to help reach different learning styles, not
to mention more easily reaching today's video generation.

Hi
Our state through our Instrictuional Television now supports United
Streaming. Before that was available, our district bought it. It is
wonderful! So full of historical film footage--dust bowl, Watergate,
the presidents, etc. as well as science information. The English is
not as strong, but our teachers like and use the great book series
that are available as well as other shorts on the books they are
reading. They find these video good introductions.
I think our teachers like that they can choose a segment to use, if
they don't want to use the whole video. This is especially true in
science. Our teachers love this resource! They would be sad to see it
go, if that ever happened.

We love it. We are not college-prep. United Streaming has videos to the
college/adult level. They have also just added the Science component and
the Health component. My physical science teachers are very happy with
it. We are just now introducing these new components to all faculty with
that subject area. We are a 9-12 high school.
***
My science teacher use it and love it. Other departments seem to
have no use for it. You might want to get a trial subscription
and see how it goes.
***
Teachers like it because it has a huge variety, and they don't have
to wait for videos. For myself, I find a subscription to Netflix to
be just as useful. BUT. If you've got teachers who will use it,
it's worth the money.
***
I love it, and they have a free trial EVERYONE should try to see how
fabulous it is and how well designed. AN unbelievably wonderful
selection and many helpful tools.
