The College of Education at Sam Houston State University seeks
applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Library
Science, available June 1, 2008.

This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position which
reports to the Dean of the College of Education and represents the
department of the College of Education and the University. The department
offers the: MLS (with a concentration in  public school librarianship). 
The program is delivered online via the Internet, face-to-face, and
hybrid. The chair will lead and coordinate the department's strategic
planning and curriculum development; coordinate accreditation and program
approval initiatives with guidelines from the American Library
Association, Texas State Department of Education, National Council for the
Accreditation of Teacher Education, the American Association of School
Librarians; teach two courses per semester; and provide service to the
university, community, and profession.

The MLS degree program is seeking candidacy status for accreditation by
the American Library Association.  The department desires a dynamic
individual who has experience with and interest in the ALA accreditation
process. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in library
science, instructional technology, or related field, a strong record of
publication, a record of service in relevant professional organizations at
the state and national levels, and qualifications for appointment at the
level of Associate or Full Professor.

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience.
