My question was; Are there any other providors who offer videos via streaming but do not require purchase of a server? Not many responses - some nice free ones, only we are looking for more video on demand type places. Many of the free sites (at least as far as I can tell) don't allow download so we would have to view streaming. Also, some of the vendors licensing do not allow for the content to be viewed outside the US. Anyway, here are the responses I have with my comments in parenthesis. We use Power Media Plus. (I found out that this product is now owned by Discovery) You don't have to have your own server, you can get video real-time via the Net from their servers. To ease congestion in our district and the slowdown of the traffic on the backbone, we chose to put the videos on a server inside our firewall. We've had good luck and teachers are slowing beginning to use them. National Geographic has some great one. www.nationalgeographic.com/ Also you can check out www.hulu.com it has a number of television shows and movies available. The history channel also has some great videos to use. http://www.history.com/media.do (of course the opening ad for that drug that is commonly sent in spam messages doesn't bode well) In NY we actually get this provided free by our PBS stations, but I see you're located in Germany--don't know how pricing will work. www.pbs.org Also there is Teacher Tube www.teachertube.com (does allow download, videos are mostly privately done) Deborah Stafford Gen.
