I just reviewed the Opposing Viewpoint database, and it is AMAZING!!! If you find an article with the "gearhead" beside it, it has LOTS of advantages in the classroom! A student can download it to an mp3 player Instead of reading it, the article is read to students through the "listen to it" options It has a quiz of ten questions of the article It has an opening question to zone in on the topic It has SAT vocabulary words that are found within the article Other than that, esp. if you have ESOL students, the user can get any article translated into different languages, including Chinese, French, Japanese, Spanish, German, etc!! This is the way databases should work. I love it!! There are some databases that might provide some "opposing views" of these types of issues. Those that I might suggest to review would be: Gale's Opposing Viewpoints http://gale.com/OpposingViewpoints/ SIRS Researcher http://www.proquestk12.com/productinfo/sirs_researcher.shtml Wilson's Current Issues Reference Shelf Plus http://www.hwwilson.com Understanding Controversy and Society http://www.abc-clio.com/schools Issues and Controversies on File http://www.facts.com Points of View Reference Center http://www.ebsco.com Most all of these have free trials that are available, if your teacher would be interested in using them during the time that he plans to work on this assignment.
