I had a hard time limiting each grade to 5 books, but these are excellent titles.
 
            Grade 1
Koller, Jackie French.  Horace the Horrible.
Rathmann, Peggy.  Officer Buckle and Gloria.
Sanderson, Ruth.  Cinderella.
Sierra, Judy.  Wild About Books.
Willems, Mo.  Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! and sequels.
 
            Grade 2
Bauer, Marion Dane.  Allison’s Wings.
Choi, Sook Nyul.  The Best Older Sister.
Fritz, Jean.  George Washington’s Mother.
Jenkins, Martin.  The Emperor’s Egg.
Rylant, Cynthia.  The High-Rise Private Eyes mysteries. 
 
            Grade 3
Avi.  Who Stole the Wizard of Oz?
Cameron, Ann.  The Most Beautiful Place in the World.
DiCamillo, Kate.  The Tale of Despereaux and The Miraculous Journey of Edward 
Tulane.
Hodge, Deborah.  Bears and other Kids Can Press Wildlife Series titles.
Prelutsky, Jack.  A Pizza the Size of the Sun and other poetry books.
 
            Grade 4
Hill, Kirkpatrick.  The Year of Miss Agnes.
Lewin, Ted.  Gorilla Walk.
Schlein, Miriam.  The Year of the Panda.
Winkler, Henry.  Niagara Falls, or Does It? and other Hank Zipzer novels.
Woodruff, Elvira.  George Washington’s Socks.
 
Grade 5
Berry, James.  Around the World in Eighty Poems.
Clements, Andrew.  Frindle.
Creech, Sharon.  Heartbeat.
Giff, Patricia Reilly.  Nory Ryan’s Song; Maggie’s Door; and Water Street (sequels).
Kehret, Peg.   Small Steps and Five Pages a Day (sequel).
