[LM_NET] TECH: editing scanned document

I have some documents I need to scan and would like to be able to edit the text of 
the scanned document.  Is there a (free?) program that can do this?  Is there a 
format I should save it in when scanning that would enable me to do this?  Any 
advice would be much appreciated.
