I do. My principal and I both feel that newsletters can be great library PR and so many families don't have home Internet access or can't be bothered to go see what I have to say online that an online letter would be missed. On the other hand, print newsletters (which contain stuff like good homework database assistance, new titles for kids, good family read-alouds, books for parents, library programs and fund-raisers, and other book/library related info) go home in the take-home packets our school sends out every Th., so they have a better chance of being read and maybe even being toted to the public library, to encourage family reading. I also do newsletters once in a while to the teachers, with new prof. dev. titles on hand, ideas for read-louds, inspiring quotes, reminders of library procedures, request for suggestions, and tips on other ways besides book reports to measure reading/retaining. They can be a lot of work, but the pleased response always surprises me.
