[LM_NET] GEN: Modern Lit Help

I have a teacher who is in the planning stages of a Modern Literature and Culture 
class.  I have been asked to help supply a fairly extensive list of titles that 
students may choose from for this class.  The focus is how Literature impacts 
society and culture.  The titles do not have to be modern themselves - just so long 
as they have had some impact on culture even today (Shakespeare for example).  

I'm compiling a list, but I would like as much imput as possible.  Any suggestions 
for books or movies would be greatly appreciated!
