I have been reading research on the value of reading
for pleasure vs. reading for a reward.

This seems WONDERFUL to me, but I love to read. My
school has AR and I do not promote it...I buy quizzes
because some kids really do enjoy it. It really is
mostly my second graders who use it.

1.How do you promote reading and encourage kids to
read for the pleasure of it and without giving
prizes?

2. How did you convince your
principal/teachers/parents that AR is not necessarily
the best way to encourage reading.

Thanks in advance for all of your advice!
