I asked LM_NET about The Hollywood Librarian because it was not something I knew
about, and $3500
seems a lot of money to raise. Here are the responses.

Our school library plans to show it to the public..we requested it and they will
send it to us to
show (DVD) within a certain time frame. I don't believe there is a charge

I spoke to Ann Seidl a while ago on the phone, during the promotion of her film
whereby US public or
school libraries could show the film (at no expense to themselves) and keep a
portion of the ticket
income. I was considering doing this and she sent me a copy of the film on DVD. Ann
Seidl herself
was very pleasant, very sincere and enthusiastic about her work, however I found
the film to be
different than what the title led me to expect. It was more the type of film one
would see on
National Public Television, a documentary rather than a feature film. And while it
was very well
done, it didn't really have much to do with Hollywood's representation of
librarians on film. It was
more about the struggle of librarians to be recognized for the treasures they
are---which is a
terrific thing, but not what folks coming to see the film would necessarily expect.

I apologize if I'm being less than clear---and again, I did not meet Ann in person
so I don't know
if she's worth the appearance fee.

She appeared at a library conference I attended and introduced her film.
I thought she and her work was great. I have seen mixed reviews of her film,
mostly criticizing the
length of the work. But I found the film inspirational and a validation of what
librarians do and
stand for.
Maybe I am biased because I am a librarian. I got a similar reaction from my wife
who is not a
librarian.

Thank you to those who responded - but I would still like to know the authority of
Ann Seidl -
independently of the website.
