*****A Clarification.... If your movie was taped off-air, then there are
special requirements that have to be met for the tape to be "legally
acquired". Basically, if it is more than 10 days since the first broadcast
of the program, you need permission from the copyright holder. I'm not sure
if Movie Licensing would cover this.

From my copy of Simpson's book (4th ed).

If the movie is 1) nonprofit educational (you cannot collect money, canned
goods or anything like that), 2) in a classroom or similar place, 3)
instructors and pupils of that class only 4) legally acquired copy (rentals,
public library, your personal collection, your neighbor's collection, as
long as it was purchased legally), and 5) part of face-to-face teaching
activities. Usually, you need to be able to tie the movie to a teaching
goal and state standard you don't even need Movie Licensing USA.

If you are studying the Holocaust, you can show "Miracle at Midnight" to the
class or "Schindler's List" (if you are ready for the parental firestorm),
if it ties directly to the class work.

As near as I can tell from the Simpson book, if you have the rights to show
that title in that setting to that audience (Movie Licensing USA) it does
not matter where the tape (or DVD) came from as long as it was legally
acquired.

Is is legal to show movies brought in from outside the school, ie personal
movies and rentals, if your school has the Movie Lisencure Agreement (even
Disney movies) that allows movies to be ahown in the school?
