I have seen several notes asking for info on visiting authors, so I thought I'd let everyone know we just had a fabulous visit with Roland Smith, who is the author of Peak and Elephant Run (both recently on our Lone Star reading list) as well as Cryptid Hunters and other books (his newest if the first in a series called IQ.) His books are aimed at middle school audiences -- action/adventure often with a theme of animals or nature. his books are well liked by girls and well as boys, and several have special appeal to reluctant readers. Along with what I consider the most necessary basics: on time, professional, friendly, adaptable, willing to autograph books, he was also high energy, tuned in to what the kids wanted, patient with questions, and just all around terrific. I always feel nervous about author visits because if something goes wrong (or I book a dud) it all comes back on me. Roland Smith made me a bit of a hero (at least for today!) in the students' eyes. Students and teachers are still abuzz with positive comments about his visit. If you want more details, I'll be glad to give them off list. You can contact him through his website: www.rolandsmith.com<http://www.rolandsmith.com>. Maggie K.
