There are lots of schools in my school district with Talkin' about Bessie. Almost all of us have it filed in Biography. I just read the book. I really enjoyed it – but at the end there is an acknowledgment that reads: The characters in this oral history portray actual friends, relatives, and associates of Bessie Coleman. However, the voices, styles of speech, and characterizations are all imaginary devices used to bring Bessie's true story to life. In addition, several composite characters have been created in order to maintain the chronology of events… SO, should it be in biography – or E for a quick read??? -- Mary Ann Shaffer Media Specialist Ivey Lane Elementary School 209 N.
