So, after discussing with the teacher who insisted that her student return a book which she deemed "inappropriate", I ended up going to the administration to set out an official policy. She agreed that the teachers should not be censoring their students' books. She also seemed to breathe a huge sigh of relief when I told her that I considered it my job to stand in the line of fire between the teachers and the parents if a student took home a library book that the parents did not like. We then discussed what should happen if a parent didn't approve of a book. Luckily, I already had a policies and procedures manual written (from one of my MLS classes). So, I was able to tell the AP that I already had a procedure in mind for book challenges, as well as a procedure for choosing new materials for the library. However, I do not have a "request for reconsideration" form in the library to give to parents who want to have a book pulled. I checked the archives and found several requests for such, but that was all. I also checked the wiki. If you all would be so kind as to send me your own challenge forms, I would appreciate it. I will also post mine to the wiki when I finally have one completed.
