Thank you to everyone who responded to my inquiry about the use of book trailers and where to find them. Here is the original question: I'm curious to know how many of you use these, in what way, and if you've found a resource for getting them or if you are making them yourselves? Everyone who answered said they are using book trailers! Here is what people said about how they are using them: I have made a few to put on the news (plasma) screens in our high school and middle school. These screens are on all day and run various announcements over and over throughout the day. I made a trailer for Jodi Picoult's Second Glance, and then I made a general one for a string of Vampire novels. I use them as a means of getting kids interested in coming to the library to check out books. I was very excited to have started a digital booktalk project with students. Some of them did a great job and they enjoyed it. The first group turned theirs in but, unfortunately, many of them did not follow the rules about where to locate images and so violated copyright (despite the rubric I created). I'm on the fence about what to do next. The teachers seem to think as long as the kids cite sources, it's OK. I keep telling them they have to have permission if they use images not in the public domain--they are changing formats as well. Kind of frustrated....and hoping I didn't create a monster that will be haunting me in the future! Two months ago I started a monthly showing of book trailers in the library during lunch. I try to have the books that I am showing right on the shelves so students can check them right out after the viewing. It has worked well, and plan to continue this. I am in the process of creating a compilation of book trailers to show on a continuous basis so that students will have something to watch while waiting to check out and have an on hand list of book ideas. Most people are making their own, but here are some sources LM_Netters suggested for finding book trailers: -You Tube -I have marked places I have found for book trailers on my delicious cite. http://delicious.com/lamcculloch under booktrailers -University of Central Florida (digitalbooktalk.com) As for my few book trailers, they can be viewed at http://bookjunkysblog.blogspot.com/ You can use them if you wish.
