Responses on Cataloging of Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom This is educational because Morrie was Mitch's college professor (yes, I agree, it is reaching but goes along with the trend to put biography material in the area where the subject was best known - Morrie was an educator so the biography (of Morrie) goes into education). Not sure how it would get to be fiction - it is a biography. Our Tuesdays with Morrie is in 379.1 also and I don't understand why. I've been thinking about moving it to the biographies (92 SCH) because NOBODY goes to the 379's in a middle school library (thought about putting it with the "social issues" books--which they do look at-- but it doesn't fit there, either). I see that book as a memoir, which fits in with biographies. More to the point, my kids like biographies so they're always snooping around the 92s so that's a better place for Morrie to be. Just my 2 cents worth. I would say put it in the section where your patrons will find it easiest and read. Mine is in Fiction. I often have the same title in two places when I have two copies, for example Snowflake Bentley can be 921 (biography) and 551.57 (snow) both are suitable for this title and I do it to create greater visibility of the book/topic for my students. I consider this local authority. I think the Albom book can be in a couple of places, but I think it's your choice where you put it for greatest access for your patron population. We have it as 378.1 It's at 921/Sch in my library -- seems to be the best fit here! I have it in with the biographies - 921 SCH We have it in biography.
