We are having some problems that we haven't experienced before. Students who don't
use the library are coming in at lunch to meet "friends" or possibly connect in
"deals." The school is not dealing effectively with these problems with drugs.
We are doing a program called POSITIVE ACTION where the kids read and can even act
out skits. I don't really know how much influence that will have on senior high
students. We cannot continue to put our heads in the sand. Illegal drugs,
prescription drugs, alcohol........they are all serious problems. What have you
tried at your school that works? Mention drug dogs just to put a little fear into
some kids and the administration totally melts down. The comment our principal made
today was "I know that drugs aren't any worse than they were in the 70s." So
everything is okay????? Please share what you are doing in your high school,
community, etc. that might be making a difference. Thanks for your help.
