About 20 years ago I decided to change all the fiction spine labels and cataloging.
Therefore, all novels are FIC and the complete last name of the authorĀ  (or first
word of title, if title entry). Makes it easier for the students, easier to shelve
- and just makes good sense to me.AllanDr. Allan O'Grady Cuseo, MGCDirector of

LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDUSubject: Re: [LM_NET] Fiction Call NumbersI think it would
depend on how many have the same first three letters. I think I would print out a
list of the Fiction and see how many there are that might create shelving or
patron problems and go from there. I don't have that many Fiction, and I have
high schoolers, so I just use F ADA. If I had a lot and there were many with the
same three letters, but different last names and it created confusion I would
change it. Toni Koontz Librarian St. Charles Preparatory School Columbus, Ohio

I'm curious: how do you have your call > numbers in your OPACs? Why did you
choose to have them that way? (i.e. > fic hux, fic huxley, or just plain huxley.)
