Some of you have asked about position openings at the academic level and how to go about finding them. I thought I'd share this one that came through, if anyone is interested in moving into the academic level (especially since this one is for an Education Librarian who has experience working at the K-12 levels...fun, fun!) Thanks! ~Shonda <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>< Position Announcement: Education Librarian Eastern Kentucky University seeks an academic librarian with an interest in k-12 education to work in the Learning Resources Center. This branch library collection includes children's and young adult literature, curriculum materials, and electronic resources. The staff work in a fast-paced, team-based environment. This area of the library serves students and faculty in the College of Education's undergraduate and graduate programs, which includes Eastern's first doctoral program in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies as of fall 2008. Responsibilities include assisting in the following: reference service (electronically and face to face), bibliographic instruction, collection development, supervision of staff, and outreach and liaison work with the College of Education. EKU Librarians have faculty status and 12-month contracts. Salaries are competitive. Benefits include tuition waivers, family health care plans, choice of retirement plans, life insurance, 20 days vacation plus sick time, and approximately 15 paid university holidays. Qualifications: An MLS degree from an ALA accredited school is required. Experience in libraries (academic or k-12 school) is also required. Successful library instruction experience and knowledge of print and electronic educational materials are highly desirable.
