Though the post was not made as a target, there were several requests for a hit.

I was/am looking for ideas for a public library table at at public school's fall
festival.

Here were the responses:

How about printing a crossword puzzle on poster board and laminating it.  You could
play the game over and over all day if you use the right markers.

I would probably just do a spinning wheel with it divided into characters [each
representing a prize].
the prizes could be bookmarks, pencils, stickers, book posters and maybe even
books, if you have advanced copies if you have them.
good luck and have fun!

In addition to a table with handouts about services, free old magazines and
“trinkets” we do storytelling.  We arrange the storytelling with festival
organizers (stressing the need to be in a location were we can be heard).  We
prefer a small stage—sometimes there are other groups performing.

I am not sure what your timetable is, but we have manned a booth with outreach
materials—information about programs (the program guide), upcoming events, etc. We
bring along giveaways like bookmarks and any leftover summer reading program
freebies like keyrings. To attract folks, we have a game or two when appropriate,
like a beanbag toss with the beanbags being little pumpkins tossed through a
painted screen decorated with fall leaves, for example, for a fall festival. In the
past we have done storytelling, but sometimes a venue like this is too loud and
distracting for that to be completely successful.

How about doing a book walk instead of a cake walk.  That was done at a local
elementary school's spring fling.  Was a big hit.

Face painting is always a big hit.
Maybe something with I love (heart) to read.
Very easy to do.

For family night at our school I've created a game that goes over well with parents
and students  I got some index cards and wrote popular titles on it (I chose
classics as well as the newer popular titles).  I got another stack of cards and
wrote the authors of those titles on it.  I asked the participants to try to match
as many books to their authors.   It was great fun for the parents helping their
children try to match as many as possible.  I made a set of 50 author/title pairs
and quite a few got them all correct!

Thanks to all.
