I had some requests for a hit. My original query is below followed by suggestions. I tried the first one and it worked well. "I have a history teacher wanting to know if it is possible to insert a picture (such as an outline map) over text. What he wants is label markings (single letters or numbers) to show through the map so students can label points on a map. Is this possible? Right now he just prints the page and then writes the letters by hand on the map. When he asked me I told him "I don't know, but boy, do I know the people to ask!" TIA" 1. I'm now using 2007, but I think you can do this in '03 as well: Insert your picture. Then create a text box over the top. Format the textbox as no fill to make it transparent. You may need to set the picture text wrapping as Tight or Square. 2. He should put the map BEHIND the text, then he can put numbers or letters on the map. 3. Hi! Here's one way to do it: --Right-click on the picture, and choose "format picture" --Choose the "layout" tab, and choose "behind text." Then you can add text boxes which will "float" above the picture. 4. If you will paste the map into the word document first, then click on it for editing, the picture toolbar will become active. Click on the square box with the lines (text wrapping -- 4th box from the right) and select behind text. That wil allow you to type over the map. Hope this helps. 5. I would PowerPoint for this, inserting text boxes and arrows- using AutoShapes for the arrows. Then you could print out the slides. You can even orient the slides in Portrait rather than Landscape if needed. Tere Hager Secondary Librarian Brentwood Christian School 11908 N.
