The Family Reading Nights at my elementary school are basically an open library
night. Students come in with their parents and can read, check out books, and take
AR tests. Three or four of the elementary teachers usually volunteer to come in and
help out. We sometimes give out prizes and sometimes have a teacher dress up like a
character from a book (we have a Curious George and Cat in the Hat costume). It
ends up being a nice evening for parents to visit the school and spend time with
their kids.
