Right now as I write this I have been interrupted to many times to count [not
complaining just factual]- we are in 1st lunch. My library is full of kids who
find the cafeteria noisy or otherwise uncomfortable. I allow them to bring their
lunch and eat at the tables. I have yet to have a complaint for the custodial
staff as the kids know that this practice would stop if they leave a mess. I
haven't had anything spilled into the computers yet either.

1st and 2nd period today were made up of all the kids who exempted exams. They get
to hang out and play games, read, or just "chill". I had about 30 in each period
and it was wonderful.

My first book club group of the year had 36 students in it. We are a school of
230! That's a big group. I ran out of books for the second book group(25) so I
have a waiting list of 15.

I have done collaborative lesson in English and History, chaperoned trips to the
zoo, science museum, downtown for lunch (catering class), set up a mock election
for the school, sponsor the National Honor Society, assist on Prom Committee and
have increased by books in circulation to double that of a year ago. I am also the
Public Relations contact for my school so I am sure that we have an article in the
paper weekly and our edline is updated with the newest information.

I am told constantly how important I am to the school and how important the library
is. This school is made up of all team players - if a classes needs to be covered
there are always more offers than needed.

Put yourself out there - be seen and be public - don't stay locked in the library -
and welcome each person who walks in the door.
