[LM_NET] Guidelines for use of non-staffed media centers

I am a third-year district media specialist and have often consulted with
this listserv archives for answers to questions but this is the first time I
have written.  My assignment includes a seventh-grade building and nine
elementary buildings.  The elementary media centers are managed by media
paraprofessionals and the collection is not automated.  This year the
district eliminated all but three and one-half media-para positions and
combined the schools for reassignment of those remaining in the reduced
positions.  Two paras each have responsibility for three media centers, one
manages two school media centers and one has been assigned part time to one
school.  I have been asked to develop guidelines for use of the media
centers during times when there is no media paraprofessional on site.  Please
share your ideas on how to preserve the collection and allow the users
access to the media centers.  If you are working under similar
circumstances, please describe how you operate your media center when you
are not there.
