Hello Netters-- I recently received my library budget and found that a large chunk of it was going to a schoolwide subscription to BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr for teachers and students as designated by the last librarian. I feel the money is better spent on reading programs, author visits, and more literacy centered activities which the library has not had. The school was opened last year and the Instructional Tech teacher asked the librarian to pay for this subscription because IT did not have the budet to cover it. I tell you this part because when I mentioned the possibility of cancelling it, the IT teacher was upset and said a lot of teachers would also be disgruntled by my doing so. I do want to (and probably will) cancel it, but I wanted to offer something as an alternative. What are your views on this situation and do you know of any alternatives to BrainPOP that is less costly? Right now the fee is 1500 a year. I think that is excessive considering that is a program I do not see the library using very much, if at all. Thanks for your collective wisdom in advance!
