[LM_NET] TARGET: small school library collection development policies

Hello,
I'm facing a giant. I weeded extensively all summer and per my admin's
directions, have boxes upon boxes of weeded books. It was a huge job
but I'm thrilled that it's over....except that it's not. I've been
told we're forming a library committee to look through all the books
that I've already been through twice and make sure we're not disposing
of or giving away anything valuable. Is a "New True Book" about
Computers published in 1983 valuable? They think so..."but it's
vintage!"
This can be averted in the future (hopefully) by the creation of a
board-approved development policy. I am at a 200-kid K-12 school where
no such policy has ever been written, or if it has, I cannot locate it
and it certainly didn't have much about weeding!
So, I ask the collective wisdom of this group for samples, ideas,
things I must include, etc. I'm really an English teacher by degree,
so this is all fairly new to me. I've read a few I've found online but
also wanted to access this group's ideas. If anyone else is in a
similar situation, I'll post a hit. Thanks!
