I accidentally stumbled acrossed a series of books about individual sir names at
amazon.com
I put in my last name, and found "The Wunderlin Name in History." It's expensive,
at $29.95, but so interesting I bought the books for all the branches of my family,
my husband's family, and my best friend's family.

Books are only about 80 to 100 pages, and contain the same basic info in the body
of the book. The interesting part is in the margins, where government information
pertaining to the history of your particular family name is written. For example,
census info, military records, most common entry point, first names, occupations,
nationalities, life span, Records supposedly are compiled from ancestry.com

For someone who already has the data, or the time and means to gather it, it's not
worth the money. But for me, with most of the older family population gone, it was
a wonderful find.

For what it's worth,
Linda
