Highest praise for this audio recording that Doug Bancks mentioned. I have played through my audio cassette version of this evening's performances -- so spectacular. But I must say that I'm very biased: Roger Angell and Bart Giamatti are two people who have had a huge influence on my life. Amazing minds and passion for life and baseball! I found the recording on the symphony space website: https://www.symphonyspace.org/estore/item/21 (but I wonder if this is an excerpt). One other baseball title that I think is about the best book on simply loving baseball (for upper middle and high school) is Phil Hoose's Perfect Once Removed. Hilarious. So on target -- this memoir about a boy who lives for the game, has no playing talent, but has the game help him find a place in his new school and community. Happy opening day week for everyone that is as excited about this as I.
