Many thanks to everyone who sent in a suggestion. I've listed the responses
below.

The teacher decided to go with "Late for School" by Mike Reiss. She reports
that it was a big hit--kids loved it!

4th Grade Read Aloud

Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Book by Lauren Child is a GREAT fractured fairy
tale that even my older students really like!

Well, THE GIVNG TREE,of course- what could be better???

Piggie Pie by Margie Palatini

My 4th grade really enjoyed Pippo the Fool. It is a picture book that
is a true story.

Anything by Chris Van Allsburg.

How about *Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude* by O'Malley?

Anything by Margie Palatini would be good. Diary of a Worm, Would I Lie to
You, Halfway Hank and Tell Me a Scary Story but Not too Scary are a few
more.

There’s a really fun book (IMHO) called The Web Files by Margie Palatini.
It’s a parody on Dragnet. Fourth graders should get a lot of the humor that
younger kids won’t. .

How about Henry's Freedom Box by Levine. It is the story of how a young
slave escaped to freedom by shipping himself in a box to freedom. It is one
of our Va. Reader's Choice books this year and is wonderful with great
pictures.

*Who is Melvin Bubble* is hilarious. You gotta do the voices and when you
get to the magic rock, total silence.

You may want to look at www.ubah.com/u2984

Anything by Jon Sciezka.

Wisniewski's (sp) The secret knowledge of grownups, master man or his Sumo
Mouse.

Sciezka's Stinky Cheese man and other fairly stupid tales.

How about Our Librarian Won't Tell Us ANYTHING by Toni Buzzeo? It stars a
fourth grade boy and a cool librarian!

Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude (can't remember the author, I'm at
home..might be O'Malley. They love it. Very fun read aloud.

The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry!
~ a good tie-in with Earth Day!

Knots on a Counting Rope

Pink and Say by Polacco

One of the Chris Van Alsburg's, or Allen Say or Jon Scieska or Wiesner.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Enemy Pie by Derek Munson. Has a cute little twist at

the end :-)

Two great ones are The Dirty Cowboy by Amy Timberlake and I Ain't Gonna

Paint No More! by Karen Beaumont and illustrated by David Catrow. I

believe they would enjoy both. (All grades that I've read them to K-5

loved both.)

Meanwhile by Jules Feiffer

Two Bad Ants Chris VanAllsburg (just read this to my 4th grade and they

were wild for it)

The Secret Short Cut by Mark Teague

Sector 7 by David Weisner

Snoring Beauty

 Thanks again,
