Hmm, interesting. Half of the responses I had told me to write a thank you letter with the total donation price, another group told me to write the letter but leave the spot open for the donator to write in the amount because we are not sure exactly how much money was spent on the books in actuality. I emailed my busniess office: "Grant said that you can write her a thank you note telling her how much it would have cost us if we bought the books new. You just have to sign your name, position and Dallas School District and she can use that as a receipt for her taxes." But, I can see why many of you do not do that, I have no idea where the books were bought, or of they were on sale, or even gifts. I never really thought about that. I suppose I can just add up the prices on the book jacket and work with that. I do hope it is not 300 books! I have been working in libraries for three years and never had a question about that, and the librarian before me (moved to the middle school) has never heard anything about that either. Did you ever have to arrange that for a donation?
