I came away from the WTWTA preview with a horrible image in my head--Maurice
Sendak's classic book in stores with a new cover: Some still photo from the
movie and a banner proclaiming: "Now a major motion picture!"

It seems as though all of these movies have high production values, but
something sad happens when a picture book becomes a movie. When Shrek came
out, I read the original William Steig book to my students, and they just
sat there and went, "That's it?" The quiet heart of the book/story
experience is cut out of it.
