What an excellent idea, marking books you are reading and posting lists of what
you've read!

I also feel it is a vital part of what I do to read and evaluate new arrivals as
well as previously unread books already in the collection. It is unfortunate that
we feel compelled to explain the importance of on-the-job reading or that we might
be "wasting time" better spent on other tasks.

Our relatively new high school principal wants me to tutor students who need
remedial help, which I am happy to do, to make sure that the time for which I am
being paid is being well spent. (Some years ago, I wrote an article describing
what I do in the course of a day. Perhaps I'll give it to her to read.)
