In my middle school, we have collected biographies (like Great Twentieth Century
Artists, The Beatles, The Wright Brothers) in 920. On the other side of the
library, I have biographies of individuals with call numbers like B KEL for a
biography about Helen Keller. Kids never think to look in the 920s for books about
the Beatles, for instance. I am considering moving bands and people always known
as duos, like the Wright Brothers, into the Biography section with call numbers
like B WRI. I would keep collected biographies about, say, Civil War Spies and
American First Ladies in 920. Does this make sense? Is it justified, or am I
enabling sloppy search strategies? I'm thinking about this now because I just got
a series of books about rock stars and bands.
