As many folks in the US and Canada get ready for the new school year, it's time to remind your teachers of students ages 10-14 about GiggleIT, a free online writing project that's a great getting-to-know-you activity. Designed to help children around the world improve their English language literacy skills, the GiggleIT Project allows students ages 10-14 to contribute their writings to a free online book (eBook) celebrating stories and humour from their culture. Written by children for children, the eBook contains funny stories, jokes and poetry from around the world. The GiggleIT project encourages children to be creative and make cross-cultural connections with youngsters from other countries as they learn about their culture and traditions through humor, while also improving their literacy skills. Be sure to tell your teachers that free learning packages with examples and worksheets connecting GiggleIT stories, jokes, and poetry to their curriculum are available for downloading, too! Each registered class will select GiggleCritters to decorate their GiggleIT writings page. They can win cute, loveable Gigglepet prizes through competitions which will motivate and stimulate students' reading and writing skills. Please help your teachers of intermediate and middle school students (even high school freshmen) register their classes now at: http://www.iasl-online.org/sla/giggleIT/ The GiggleIT Project is a global collaborative publishing project hosted by the International Association of School Librarianship (IASL), working in partnership with the International Children's Digital Library (ICDL). Remember that registration, teaching resources, and all the wonderful stories, poetry and jokes are free! See y'all in GiggleTown!
