[LM_NET] TARGET: picture book- text-to-self connections

Hello to the Collective Brain,

I have a fabulous 5th grade teacher who is looking for picture books "that kids 
would most likely have a strong personal connection to (and thus, their own story 
to share).  One that was suggested in the book (which we have in the LMC, I see) is 
Enemy Pie."  She's looking for three or four additional picture books that would 
work for this.

She adds:  "I know one thing that kids LOVE to tell stories about is a time when 
they had a close call (I call them the "I almost wasn't here" stories) or a time 
when they had really bad (or good) luck."

My brain is still on summer vacation...  Can you think of titles that will fit the 
bill?
