I am only interested in the most new items. I have most of the suggestions
below that are from the past year or two. (Due to all your wonderful
suggestions, you great people!) But, I included everything suggested for
others who might be interested. I haven’t made a choice yet, but there are
several that sound perfect. Thanks to all who sent ideas.

Original post : I just found out I have a small gift to purchase books for
my three elementary libraries. I'd like to get only 2009 copyright boy's
must read books for grades 3-5.
What can you suggest that is *new this yea*r? I have lots of older titles,
but haven't had a chance to look for the very best new books. Non-fiction,
fiction, graphic novels.

My boys that age love the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan- the most
recent one just came out this year. And, of course, there's the new Diary
of a Wimpy Kid book coming out in October.

Definitely add Andrew Clements' latest 4th - 6th grade book that came out in
June: Extra Credit. The fact that it includes the older brother having to
deal with his sister and academic pride while writing to "a girl" may make
this sound very intriguing for boys who are feeling, well, shall we say
ambivalent, about girls. I think this has been one of my favorite reads of
the summer, and I'm currently at book #160 since June.

Robot Zot by Jon Scieszka and David Shannon

Captain Nobody by Dean Pitchford

Finally, boys LOVE to read the Guinness Book of World Records. I always
have a long (like 15 students) waiting list for this book in my media
center.

I just read and loved *Knucklehead*, Jon Sciesczka- Very funny story of
growing up with lots of brothers.

**

The boys in my libraries are loving Jon Sciezka's, Knucklehead.
