Oops! I forgot one more response:

I have the set of Picturing America prints cataloged individually so that specific
images can be checked out without requiring the whole package.

Subject: Hit: Cataloging Picturing America Prints

  Hello,
I appreciate everyone who took the time to respond to my original post which was:
Today I opened my Picturing America package and became a little overwhelmed (this
probably has more to do with the beginning of the school year) as I began my
attempt at cataloging the prints. Then I began thinking . . . is there anyone out
there that is cataloging the whole set and asking teachers to "sign out" the prints
they want to check out? Or is everyone cataloging each print separately? Just
wondering . . .

Several other people wanted me to let them know what I found out so here are the
responses I received:

We used the MARC record for the set of pictures and gave each picture a separate
barcode. Teachers check out these pictures separately. We also cataloging the
teaching guide separately. So we have two MARC records in the OPAC for the system.

Not sure what cataloging system you have. I had Spectrum. I catalogued the
whole thing as a KIT, with the Teacher's Guide and each double sided print as
a holding. Thus there was one barcode for he whole kit and each holding had
a barcode. This way I could check out one double sided print to one teacher
and another teacher could check out a different one and I would know who had
what. In my record, I listed each double sided print ( 1A xxx, 1Bxxx) so
they could be searched easily. If I remember correctly, last year the MARC
records were available from the site. Several people used them and modified
  them for their own use.

yes, whole set, then individual signs out on sheet

I cataloged the teacher resource guide but not the prints. The prints will be on
permanent display in the hallway between the art room and the library. If a
teacher wants to take down a particular print to use for class, they have to check
with either me or the art teacher first.

We catalogued each of the art prints and housed them with our other art prints.

  Thank you!
